DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING

Riiminka and Aleksiina Design products are designed independently in Finland. Occasionally, design work is done during vacations abroad. Ideas can arise anywhere, whether at the kitchen table at home or on a sandy beach in Italy.
Riiminka and Aleksiina Design products are responsibly manufactured in-house and produced locally in Finland: in Jyväskylä and Tampere.
Ecological and ethical practices guide both the design and manufacturing processes.
In our opinion, a domestic product in Finland can only be produced in Finland, and the country of manufacture is indicated on the care label of all products.

EMPLOYEES

Our employees are highly skilled, trained adults.
We offer internship placements for students in our sewing workshop.
In the store, you will primarily be served by Riiminka's designers and owners.

PRODUCT PRICING

Product pricing is not arbitrary guesswork but is based on production costs, including expenses and margins, resulting in a fair price for sale.
Products are manufactured in appropriate quantities based on demand. Therefore, we do not need seasonal sales. Our product prices are already set at a fair and reliable level.
Occasionally, the store offers discounted products due to samples or the end of material stock.

MATERIALS

The raw materials for textile products are fabrics made from natural fibers, always organic whenever possible. The most common materials are linen, cotton, bamboo- and cotton viscose. Materials are sourced from Finland or at least within the EU.
Non-renewable oil and coal-based fabric materials have been excluded from clothing production for years, such as polyester, polyamide and acrylic.
Fabric bags are made from sanforized Öko Tex 100 cotton fabric.
Printed products are printed in Finland. The inks used for individual prints and the paints for jewelry are water-based and non-toxic.
We use birch and oak plywood manufactured in Finland for our jewelry. Other types of wood for jewelry also come from Finnish manufacturers. Metal parts and fittings are purchased from Finland or, if not available, from within the EU.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

All Riiminka and Aleksiina Design textile products come with a sewn-in care label. Basic information is available online with each product.
In our stores, you can also receive verbal care instructions and tips as needed.
You can also ask for more instructions in our stores or by emailing us.

PACKAGING

Textile products are not packaged in plastic at any stage of production or delivery. We use paper and cardboard materials for shipments. (We found a box of plastic mailing bags and will use them up, so the package might occasionally be plastic.)

PRODUCT WARRANTY

Riiminka products are high-quality handmade items. We only deliver inspected and intact products. Of course, human errors can happen. If a product breaks due to a quality issue within a reasonable time after purchase, we will inspect the broken product and, if necessary, replace it with a new one or repair it to like-new condition.
We do not compensate or replace damaged products without charge unless it is a quality issue.

WASTE

Waste is sorted appropriately, and the amount of mixed waste is actively reduced. We sort all waste according to local waste management guidelines in Jyväskylä and Tampere.

CUSTOMERS' USED AND DAMAGED RIIMINKA PRODUCTS

Customers' damaged Riiminka and Aleksiina Design clothing and bags can be repaired in our sewing workshop, if feasible and cost-effective. The customer can decide how to proceed with the product.
All Riiminka and Aleksiina Design textiles can be returned to RIIMINKA & Aleksiina Design stores at the end of their lifecycle. Textiles are transported to a collection point for recycling in Tampere.
RIIMINKA & Aleksiina Design stores accept customers' good condition, clean, and intact Riiminka and Aleksiina Design products for resale. The resale compensation is 30%, and the remaining price can be used towards the purchase of a new Riiminka or Aleksiina Design product. The customer can set the resale price of the used product.

TRANSPORTATION

Deliveries are primarily handled by Posti and other transport companies using carbon-neutral services (whenever offered by Posti or others). We will offset the remaining carbon emissions from deliveries in the future.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT CARBON FOOTPRINT

All the electricity we purchase is produced from renewable and intangible natural resources: hydropower, wind power, solar power, and biogas.

Our carbon footprint as of March 5, 2020, on an annual basis is: 26.0 t CO2e

The largest emissions come from the district heating, electricity consumption, and business travel between our two production facilities and two RIIMINKA & Aleksiina Design stores (people and goods transportation). Travel is primarily by train (approximately 78,000 km/year) and car (28,000 km/year). We will switch entirely to renewable energy for our business premises' electricity, further reducing our footprint. Final calculations will be completed in the spring, and by May, we will offset the remaining emissions through carbon trading.

Due to the exceptional circumstances, we will not calculate carbon emissions for the years 2020-2023, as it would give a significantly reduced and inaccurate representation compared to our normal operations. We prefer to be honest in our calculations rather than report reduced emissions due to exceptional circumstances.
